Bout Summary

  • Reigning and defending OPBF Flyweight Champion and WBC # 9 flyweight Rocky Fuentes retains his title with an eleventh-round technical knockout of WBA # 13 & WBC # 14 flyweight contender Shigetaka Ikehara.
  • A straight right hand by the champion Fuentes in the last 10 seconds of Round 1 had the challenger Ikehara reeling backwards, almost sending him to the canvas, only to be saved by the bell seconds later. An overhand right by Ikehara had Fuentes' legs shaking in the end of Round 3, but Fuentes weathered the storm of the resilient Ikehara and took control of the fight afterwards, getting the better of the exchanges with Ikehara until the fight was mercilessly stopped by the corner of the exhausted and battered Japanese fighter in Round 11. This is the first time Ikehara has lost by knockout. Fuentes retains his OPBF Flyweight Title with the win.
  • Some 2,000 fight fans rose to their feet to give a standing ovation for both fighters after the bout.
