As an amateur, Rudy Cisneros was a participant and winner of several National & International bouts. His highlights include:
- Cisneros was a winner vs. boxers representing Ireland during International competition, summer of 1997.
- 1997 Chicago C.Y.O. Jr. Middleweight Champion, winning a split decision over Matthew Podgorski.
- 1999 Chicago Golden Gloves Open division runner-up, as he lost a close bout to Jimmy (Brisino) Gonzalez in the 147 lbs division.
- 2000 Chicago Golden Gloves Open division 156 lbs Title, by beating David Estrada.

The Contender
Cisneros participated in the second season of the ESPN reality show The Contender. Cisneros fought in the second bout of the show's July 19, 2006 premiere. Cisneros who had been having difficulties making the shows weight of 149 pounds, was targeted as a beatable opponent by the shows blue team. He faced off against Norberto Bravo, and lost a split decision.
