I think one of the reasons he retired early was that he saw at the time that there was not enough big paydays for him. I f he were fighting around today, his career, I think, would have been much longer because of the big paydays these fighters are getting now. He (Ernesto Marcel) was a pretty good...

Ernesto Marcel - Why did he retire?
Does anybody know why Marcel retired at the age of 26 after beating Arguello? Did he have health problems or did he just choose to quit boxing?

either there's a grudge or he knows something about Hatton fighting slicksters that the rest of us don't. Hatton has fought several crappy fighters when it could have been Witter, when he's fighting Tackie's or Phillips's then I don't mind, but Rios and Smith? :x I really like those British domesti...

Re: Tomatocan Stan Johnson
I don't know if this is the correct forum to be posting this subject in, but since he hasn't fought since 2002 I will consider him inactive and a "boxer of the past". Looking at Stan Johnson's http://www.boxrec.com/boxer_display.php?boxer_id=092488 record, I think it's a legitimate questi...

Jem Roche (Hint: I saw the picture of him fighting Tommy Burns and whey they were fighting in their stands, they both looked like they were standing in the same height) They were indeed standing in the same height. However, Roche's height was measured in centimeters. Unfortunately the world will ne...

Re: Terap is fixated on Ali
Terap is fixated on Ali. Not true. Ask him about Sugar Ray Leonard. terap is the most important poster on the site. He single handedly counter acts years of Ali ignorance and legions of Ali's blind fanatics. I think he's doing boxing a great service in that people who only know what boxing is becau...

Re: Knockout jabbers
In Jack Dempsey's book he complains greatly about how "nowadays" there exists a new punch called the "left jab". He says that the old-timers' left lead punch was just as fast as the jab but was very powerful and could knock people out. It was called the "left jolt". Th...

Terap is exactly right. I'm 31 years old, so I was a real young kid when Ali was still fighting, and I have no memories of his fights. However, from about the age of 10 on, I was led to believe by EVERY person and EVERY story I ever read that only was not only the best heavyweight ever, but that he ...

I don't have the answer to this, but I find it nearly impossible to believe that they switched his glove in 65 seconds. Consider how long it takes fighters now to get the tape put back on their gloves when the action is stopped. Sometimes that alone takes 30 seconds. Assuming the glove was in the co...

That's cool, I have 11 fights of him, although many are not full fights(only show best rounds). The three olsen fights were nice to watch but in my opinion he's not really the level of Ray. I just love looking at that BEAUTIFUL left hook on Olsen he used. David, have you noticed he's not into dodgi...
