- Fought Milton McCrory twice in 1983 for the vacant World Boxing Council Welterweight Championship. The first fight was a 12-round draw, and McCrory won the second fight by a 12-round split decision.
- Fought Donald Curry for the World Boxing Association and International Boxing Federation Welterweight Championship in 1985 and lost by a fourth-round TKO. It was Jones' last fight.
