- 1938 of Chicago, IL won the Chicago Golden Gloves Tournament of Champions at middleweght by decision over George Mitchell.
- 1940 won the Chicago Golden Gloves Tournament of Champions at heavyweight by decision over Bill Cowan and representing Chicago won the Intercity Golden Gloves' championship at heavyweight vs. Ted Wint.
- 1943 represented New York at the Intercity Golden Gloves with Walter Moore Sr. being awarded the verdict for the championship at heavyweight.
- Young was the first of three boxers in the Intercity Golden Gloves tournament's history to represent both New York and Chicago teams.
