Member of the 1992 United States Olympic Team as a Heavyweight. His results were:
- Defeated Paul William Lawson (Great Britain) 10-2
- Defeated Zeljko Mavrovic (Crotia) 9-6
- Lost to Felix Savon (Cuba) 13-11
Was once a highly regarded prospect, but is now labeled a fighter who can not win the big one. Nicholson did however beat some dangerous opponents in Terrence Lewis, Frankie Swindell, and Jesse Ferguson. Doc's biggest victory by far was a split decision win over John Ruiz for the IBO World Heavyweight Title, Ruiz would later go 1-1-1 with Evander Holyfield.
Nicholson lost his prospect label, Which was only the opinion of a few of those who were writers of boxing articles. This was after back to back losses to fellow prospects Andrew Golota and Kirk Johnson.
Trainer
Nicholson is the trainer of heavyweight contender Mike Mollo
