Trained by his father Clarence McMinn, McMinn first boxed competitively at age five, beginning a career that spanned two decades and over 150 amateur and professional fights. The Oklahoma-based boxer turned pro at 18 - while still in high school - after winning over 30 amateur tournaments, including numerous Golden Gloves and Silver Mittens competitions. As an amateur, McMinn compiled a record of 93-9 with 57 knockouts. As a professional, he won the Southern States Middleweight title. At the height of his career, Tony was ranked 16th in the world by the WBC and 12th in North America by the NABF and Ring Magazine.
