Young Peter Jackson was born Peter Martin on April 15, 1912. He is to be distinguished from Young Peter Jackson, who boxed from 1895 to 1914.

Outpointed Manuel Villa I over ten rounds to win the California State Lightweight Championship in 1932. Jackson would successfully defend the title nine times.

Ranked No. 2 in the world at lightweight by The Ring in 1933.

Knocked out Ceferino Garcia in three rounds to win the California State Welterweight Championship in 1934. Jackson also won the Pacific Coast Welterweight Championship in 1934 and held it until 1936.

Fought Cocoa Kid for the Colored Welterweight Championship in 1936 and lost by a second-round TKO.
