1 Percy Jones vs. Tancy Lee on October 19, 1914: "Jones' World IBU ... Title not at stake as he failed to make the weight"
2 Pancho Villa vs. George Marks on February 8, 1924: "Scheduled as a title fight but Marks did not make weight"
3 Newsboy Brown vs. Johnny Hill on August 29, 1928: "There is some evidence that the NYSAC also recognized Hill as the World Flyweight Champion after this bout."
4 Corporal Izzy Schwartz vs. Emile Pladner on December 1, 1928: "Flyweight World Title This could not have been a World Flyweight Title fight--Pladner over the flyweight limit of 112 pounds."
5 Corporal Izzy Schwartz vs. Willie LaMorte on August 22, 1929: "Schwartz was recognized by the NYSAC as the Flyweight World Champion. (Frankie Genaro was recognized by the NBA.) This was advertised as a championship bout, but the NYSAC refused to recognize LaMorte as champion when it was revealed that both boxers were being handled by the same manager. So eight contenders were signed to a flyweight elimination tournament."
6 Willie LaMorte vs. Frisco Grande on November 21, 1929: "Billed for the World flyweight title, but lacked official backing of New York, New Jersey, or the NBA."
7 Jackie Brown vs. Valentin Angelmann on September 11, 1933: "Fought at 114lbs according to Ring Magazine December 1933. Should not be considered a title fight." (The fight was once tagged as for the NBA world flyweight title.)
8 Benny Lynch vs. Peter Kane on March 24, 1938: "Commonly listed as for the World Flyweight Title, yet Lynch weighed 119lbs 7oz and had to pay a forfeit. The match was made at 118lbs. Source: Liverpool newspapers."
9 Benny Lynch vs. Jackie Jurich on June 29, 1938: "Lynch forfeits World Flyweight Title (overweight), and the British Board of Boxing Control declared it vacant. Jurich's manager, Jack Rogers, claims the title in defeat, which is not generally recognized."
10 Pascual Perez vs. different opponents on different dates from 1955 until 1958: "Not billed as World title fight but as both men scaled inside the limit the title was at stake."
11 Pascual Perez vs. Ricardo Valdes on August 4, 1956: "Some recordbooks billed this fight by the worldchampionship. Wasn't really."
Possible further claims:
- According to the entry on Pancho Villa vs. Jimmy McLarnin held on July 4, 1925: "Villa died shortly after this bout. The Flyweight World Title became vacant with the death of its reigning champion--Pancho Villa. The next day William Muldoon of the NYSAC proclaimed Frankie Genaro Pancho's "legitimate successor." But it was Fidel LaBarba who would become the next Undisputed Flyweight Champion of the World."
- According to the entry on Willie Davies vs. Corporal Izzy Schwartz held on November 9, 1927: "A semi-final of the NYSAC Flyweight Elimination Series to determine a successor to Fidel LaBarba. The Boston Post reported earlier that [Wee Willie] Davies was recognized by Pennsylvania as the World Champion after his wins over Newsboy Brown and Izzy Schwartz, and a bad verdict against Johnny McCoy in the California elimination series."
- According to the main wiki's list of flyweight world champions: "The title again became vacant when Fidel La Barba retired to attend Stanford University in 1927. Several fighters claimed the title including Wille Le Morte elected by the New Jersey Boxing Commission."
- According to the entry on Benny Lynch vs. Jackie Jurich held on June 29, 1938: "Lynch forfeits World Flyweight Title (overweight), and the British Board of Boxing Control declared it vacant. [Jackie] Jurich's manager, Jack Rogers, claims the title in defeat, which is not generally recognized."
Some boxers won possible world flyweight title fights (see above) but have not been included in the world flyweight champions category:
